Individuals interested in participating in Leadership Maryland are required to go through an application, interview and selection process. The goal of the Selection Committee is to create a class that reflects a cross-section of the state, to include diversity of profession, ethnicity, geographic location and gender, and who are most likely to use their leadership ability for the long-term benefit of the State of Maryland. The following criteria will be followed in evaluating candidates applying for Leadership Maryland:               

• Senior-level leaders with significant achievements in career and community
  
• Sincere concern about the future of Maryland and a personal commitment to help shape that future
  
• Willingness to commit the time and energy necessary to complete the program
  
• Full support of the organization or business that applicant represents
  
• Additional consideration will be given to graduates of local community leadership development programs
